I have told that submission of URL to various search engines and directories should be your first effort of promoting site. Your content may be unique or your site may be well designed, but without traffic it is useless. Your primary aim is to index your site in various search engines. There are numerous search engines in the internet. For your convenience here I am furnishing some of the important search engines and its site submission sections where you can add url directly. With the help of software you can add url within a very short time, but I will recommend to add URL manually. What is sitemap:
A site map is nothing but the details of your all pages. A sitemap helps the Search Engine to crawl a website or blog.
Why I add sitemap to google:
Let Google know about your blog. Adding sitemap is one of the best ways to increase traffic. All we want to know how google sees our site, how google index our site. Google Webmaster Tools allow you to get the detail report and interact with Search Engine spider.
How I submit sitemap to Google:
Google webmasters tools allow you to submit all your URLs to the Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google. Let us see how to submit sitemap to google:
Step 1: Create an account with google
Step 2: Open page http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and sign up
Step 3: Log in to google account and click “webmasters Tool”
Step 4: Enter your URL and click “Add site”

Step 5: Click "verify your site"
Step 6: Copy the Meta Tag.
Step 7: Log in to your blogger account.. Click “Edit HTML” and paste the Meta Tag in your template just after <$BlogMetaData$> in the first section of the page and before section just like following
Step 8: Return back to your webmaster tools account and click “verify”
Step 9: click “Add a Sitemap”
Step 10: Select "Add General Web Sitemap"
Step 11: After your blog URL just add “atom.xml” and your sitemap will be like http://www.example.blogspot.atom.xml. Click “General Web Site Map”. You are done.

Google Sitemaps is an easy way for you to submit all your URLs to the Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google. Through Google Sitemaps, inform google about all of your pages. Let us see how to sumbit sitemap to google: step 1: Create an account with google step 2: Log in to site map account step 3: Add your site URL on the box upside and click OK step 4: You will see in a box that your site has been added to your account
step 5:verify your site map to prove site ownership by adding meta tag supplied by google.Copy the meta tag and paste it in your site template just after <$BlogMetaData$> in the first head section of the home page.
step 6: Click verify. Now your site map has been verified
step 7: Click on 'submit site map' under heading 'Add site map'.
step 8: Choose 'Add General Website map'. You will see three lines beginning as -I’ve created a sitemap in a supported format….
step 9: Put your site map. An example has been given under the box. Just replace sitemap.xml by atom.xml after your URL. Example: http://example.blogspot.atom.xml. You are done.
